Lake Trail

Lake Trail circumnavigates Lake Knapp and offers views of waterfowl from multiple vantage points. Begin by taking the shell road toward South Meadow and Beach Pavilion; or you can access this trail from Marshy Creek Trail.
From the shell road (the south side of Lake Knapp):
- Note the cut-off for White Blind.
- Pass the pavilion and cross the berm along the north side of the lake.
- Follow the footbridge to the densely wooded area near Marshy Creek Trail. From the footbridge look at dead trees for signs of nuthatches.
- Note the cut-offs for Owl Alley and Pellet Pass.
- At the intersection of Marshy Creek Trail, bear right to reach the parking lot; bear left to access the kayak launch and observation tower overlooking the serene waters of Marshy Creek.
From Marshy Creek Trail (the north side of Lake Knapp):
- Note the cut-offs for Owl Alley and Pellet Pass.
- Follow the footbridge to the berm that crosses the north side of the water. From the footbridge look at dead trees for signs of nuthatches.
- Enjoy the open grassy area near the Beach Pavilion.
- As you continue down the shell road, stop by White Blind on your left for great views of the wildlife.
Along the way:
- Look for muskrats, herons, and eagles.
- On the north side (close to Marshy Creek Trail) look for signs of owls.
- On the south side (along the shell road) enjoy various birds and butterflies.
Mostly stroller accessible.
Lake Trail is Fee-Free
No admission fees are charged for hiking on your own. Your donations are appreciated and will help us to maintain the trails. You may register for a Guided Hike of the property for a small fee (members may come along without charge).
